Cornelius (Cork) REMPEL

February 24, 2004

Cornelius (Cork) Rempel beloved husband, dad, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home, into the arms of his Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. He was born in Osborne, Man. on May 19, 1935 to John and Susanna Rempel.

He moved to Chilliwack with his family as a youth. After growing up and working on the family farm, Cork went logging. After attending vocational school in Nanaimo, he began his career as an automotive electrician for Delsisle Electric/Auto Marine Electric, where he worked for many years. During this time, he met and married Carol Voth (May 6, 1961). Cork then worked at Chilliwack Ready-Mix, Finnings, Lineham Logging, Cheam Contracting, and then most recently, Hope Ready-Mix, as a heavy duty mechanic. Throughout his career, he was known for his integrity, and as an honest and conscientious worker.

On the home front, Cork was continuously creating or recycling one project or another, from restoring motorcycles to lawnmowers to sawmills to manufacturing cement block forms, to handmade gifts for grandchildren, to manual mole control. All projects were carried out with great determination, patience and pride.

He is survived by his siblings, Henry (Kay), Helen Ottom (Joe), John (Elsie), Bill (Kay), Peter (Betty), and Jake (JoAnne); wife, soulmate, and best friend Carol; sons, Ramone (Laurie) and Todd (Karen); and grandchildren, Linden and Braden, Cole and Carmen.

Cork is predeceased by his father John (1976); mother Susanna (2001); brother George (1975); and grandson baby Thomas Nelson Rempel (1998).

Many thanks to Dr. Paul Basson and staff for their loving and compassionate care over the past 18 months. Thanks also to Brenda from B.C. Bio, the pharmacy staff at Shopper’s Drug Mart, Home Care Nurses, Emergency and Ambulatory Care nurses, and Home Support staff for their kind-hearted physical and emotional support.
