Clifford GRIMSHAW

April 22, 2008

(Dec. 11, 1919 - April 22, 2008)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cliff, a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandpa.

Cliff was born in Oswald–twistle, Lancashire, England.

In 1939, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the British Army and served with the 2nd Battalion of the Welsh Guards as part of the 20th Guards Brigade in Europe prior to the fall of France.  He was active with the Guards Armoured Division throughout Europe until 1946.  He received his discharge in Germany, and in 1951 immigrated to Canada.

He married a prairie girl, the love of his life, Mary, and farmed with her in Castor Alberta until 1969.

Cliff wanted his family to have a better opportunity and in  the summer of 1969 he moved them to Chilliwack.  Here he was employed, until his retirement with the Chilliwack School District as a custodian.

He was affectionately known as “Gumpy” by his five grandsons Bradley, Colin, Ian, Brian and Phillip. Many friends and relatives also called him that.  He would smile and chuckle . The grandsons were his pride and joy and he put aside many hours to play and work with them.

Cliff is survived by his loving family, son, Micheal; daughter, Elizabeth (John); grandsons: Colin, Ian, Brian and Phillip.

He was predeceased by his life partner and best friend of 52 years our mom, Mary, and his beloved grandson Brad.

You will always be, forever treasured in our family.

The celebration of life was held at 1:30 on April 28, 2008 at Cooke’s Presbyterian Church.
