Clifford Alven OSS

Dec. 26, 1950 – Sept. 5, 2010

We have just lost a great, great man! Cliff, (Joe to his brothers and sister), left Ossome Acres very suddenly last Sunday at the age of 59. Cliff was the strong, silent type; the man behind the scenes; the man you could always count on to get the job done; the husband, the father, the grandfather, the friend and our Rock of Gibraltar. We will all miss him very, very much.

Cliff was born in Aldergrove and worked on the family dairy farm until the age of 16. When family moved to Abbotsford, Cliff graduated from Abbotsford Senior High, then worked at different jobs before settling into a career with Corrections Canada. Cliff worked as a Corrections Officer for 28 years and at the age of 50 retired to come home and look after the family farm (Ossome Acres).

Cliff has been involved with the Camp River Hall Board since marrying June and moving to Chilliwack and has served as Treasurer for approximately 20 years. A very generous man, Cliff donated blood 115 times and even in his passing, was able to donate many of his organs to the BC Transplant Society, where he continued to give to others.

Cliff is survived by his wife June, (they recently celebrated their 30th Anniversary), his son Aaron (Noella), Darryl (Tanya, granddaughters Cesily and Felicity), Ryan and Tyson, his mother Audra Oss, sister Darlene, brothers Arne, Merv and Lorne (Cathy), and father-in-law Norm Standeven. Predeceased by his father Nels, brother Dennis and mother–in-law Joyce Standeven.

The family would like to thank all the health care professionals who cared for Cliff: the paramedics and the doctors and nurses at Chilliwack Hospital and Royal Columbian Hospital. You were sensitive, compassionate and provided the best of care to a very well-loved man. We would also like to thank our family and friends, you know who you are. We thank you for your prayers, phone calls, visits, flowers and all the wonderful food you have provided.

The Funeral Service for Cliff will be held on Thursday, September 16 at 2:00 PM at Henderson’s Funeral home in Chilliwack, at 45901 Victoria Avenue with reception to follow at the Camp River Hall at 50246 Camp River Road, Rosedale. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Canadian Red Cross, the BC Transplant Society or the charity of your choice.
