We are saddened to announce the passing of Clara (Claire) Lillian Hjalmarson (nee Hounsell), of complications due to CHF. Claire's faith and trust in God were unshakable. She was born in Safe Harbour, Newfoundland, where she formed many fond childhood memories of country life. She moved with her parents to Toronto in 1950, and in 1969 she moved to BC.
Claire earned her Real Estate Agent's license and also studied modelling. Always elegant and graceful, she loved music and dancing, wrote poetry, and was a big hockey fan. Claire and Ernie travelled extensively and loved Mexico. She was a kind and thoughtful woman, and a respected, talented homemaker. Claire made friends wherever she went, always showing concern for others. Her delight in things was endearing and infectious.
Claire is survived by the love of her life, her husband, Ernest Hjalmarson, her two brothers, Wallace Hounsell (Ann) and Robert Hounsell (Norma), her children, Sonya Charlton (Ted), Karolyne Orr (Robert), Rick Simon (Janice), and Anita Simon, her step-children, Cathleen Hjalmarson (Robert Fuhr), Merle Wilson (Rod), Leonard Hjalmarson (Betty), and Della Calamunce (James), 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
The family invites you to a memorial service in the Fireside Room at Sardis Community Church on Saturday, May 25th, from 2 to 4 pm: 45625 South Sumas Road, Chilliwack, BC.
