Chester McKay ended his long life’s journey at the age of 89 on Wednesday, April 27th, 2011.

A long time Chilliwack resident, Chester, was born in Vancouver in 1921 and moved to Cheamview in 1937 where the family operated a sawmill. After his marriage to Doreen (nee Muirhead), they moved to Rosedale and Chester continued to operate the sawmill with his nephew, Charlie, until his retirement. Chester was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing, golfing, playing baseball, curling, snow skiing and water skiing, but his family was his first priority.

Chester was a devoted husband to Doreen who predeceased him in 2006. To their great sorrow, in 1965 they lost a newborn daughter, Barbara. He was a loving and dedicated father to his two daughters Pam (Rick) Higginson and Heather (David) Allen. Chester was “Poppa K” to five grandchildren Charlie, Susan, Barry, Russell, and Dawn, and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Gordon whose lives were enriched by his love.

In his last years, Chester especially enjoyed meeting at the Airport Café for tea and the company of good friends. He will be missed more than words can express.

An open house will be held on Saturday, May 7th 2011 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at 6845 Chilliwack River Road, Chilliwack.
