WASLEN, Cheryl E.

December 3, 1955 - December 4, 2016

We mourn the unexpected loss of a beloved wife, sister, aunt and community leader. Predeceased by her parents Ron and Eileen. Survived by her spouse Kim Bissett, brothers Ken (Tracey) and Kevin (Cathy) and their children, Brittany, Tristan and Kendall whom she loved unconditionally.

She is also sorely missed by her four legged family, Charlie and Jesse. Cheryl worked as Auld Phillips' warehouse manager for nearly forty years and is deeply missed by her friends and fellow employees across Canada, some whom she has been friends with for almost that entire time. As many of them have expressed, she left a huge hole that will be hard to fill. As dedicated as she was to her work she still found time through the years to play softball on many rep teams as a back catcher and third baseman, earning MVP honors countless times. Cheryl loved sports even when not playing herself and loved to cheer for the Jays and the Canucks especially, but found pleasure in all sports. As busy as she was, she still somehow found the time to create beautiful handmade gifts of knitting and quilting for her nieces, nephew and friends. I guess all those evenings at Stitch n' Bitch paid off! Though she didn't get out as often as she used to, she also enjoyed fishing trips, especially to Nimpo Lake in the Cariboo. Cheryl chaired the Yarrow Days committee for the past 10 years and was instrumental in making each and every one happen since 1970. A tireless worker for the community, she assisted her mother in managing our Community Centre for close to 30 years and was a major organizer for all of the events staged by the Yarrow Volunteer Society with the Santa Breakfast being one of her favorites as well as organizing the events in the park during Yarrow days.

Oh, how she will be missed …..

As much as Cheryl loved gardening and flowers, we feel she would rather have a donation made in her memory to either a program that would help get youth involved with sport or music, she loved nothing more than an evening listening to Brittany and her band mates. Or if you prefer, a worthy charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday Mar 4th, 2017 , 1-4pm at the Yarrow Community Centre, 4670 Community Street. Bring a story, bring your dog and bring your memories… along with a smile.
