Carrie Fern Isabel Kerridge went to be with her Lord on November 14th, 2008 in Warman, Saskatchewan.
Carrie “Fern” Isabel Steele was born March 11, 1912. She was the 4th child of Howard and Jean Steele, from Vanleek Hill, Ontario.
Fern was predeceased by her husband Ashley Charles, her stepson Donald, five brothers, and 3 sisters. She is survived by her son David (Lorraine), her stepdaughter Rosemary (Isadore), sister Jean (Russell) Anderson, 10 grandchildren, 21 nieces and nephews, and several great-grandchildren.
Fern lived in Vanleek Hill and the Ottawa area until 1945. At that time she was selected as one of three members of the Central Nursing Division, St. John Ambulance Brigade to be sent to Britain to care for severely injured soldiers. After serving one year, she took time off and travelled around England and Scotland. Fern moved to the Fraser Valley in May 1948 to work at the Coqualeetza Hospital. It was there that she met Ashley Charles Kerridge who was a carpenter employed at the hospital. She and Charles were married in Vancouver on May 22nd 1954. He had two adult children from a previous marriage, Rosemary and Don. Their son, David Kerridge, was born on September 25th 1955. She was a lifelong member of the Chilliwack Hospital Auxiliary for 38 years.
In order to be closer to the family, Fern moved to a home in Swift Current in the Spring of 2002. In December of 2007, Fern was transferred to the Woman Mennonite Special care home in Warman, Saskatchewan, where she spent her final days.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 21st, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack.
