Thank you to the staff and friends at Valley Haven, they have been so helpful and attentive, we appreciate how they have treated our mother and have been willing to listen to our concerns.
Carolyn led such an extraordinary life we are left wondering how she packed it into one lifetime. She was in her element outside; In the bush, preparing some game for freezing or cooking, flying her plane, fishing on lakes, in the berry patch, etc.
Adventurous, inquisitive, determined, never admitting to pain, not giving up, are just a few words and phrases that describe her life.
Her adventure started as a little girl always investigating nature, using home made water craft with her dog, and always encouraged by her father to investigate her surroundings. As a young woman she was operating large military vehicles as well as learning how to work on them. She wanted to work ambulance on the front lines in the war, but the war ended, so after leaving the army, her adventures moved to BC.
Mom cooked in logging camps which included preparing and cooking wild game, fish and berries in season.
Raising a family, Dairy farming, gardening, fishing, commercial ice fishing occupied moms time until the late 60's the 70's saw mom with 2 young children of her own and 2 from a blended family. Mom then decided to get her pilot's licence, bought a small plane and started to fly, she loved her bird.
Mom never saw herself as a trend setter, she was just a woman in a man's world doing the things she had to do mixed with the things she loved. She always drew attention to herself just by being herself, sharing the fruits of her labour and doing what she loved to do.
Family and friends alike have been touched by this woman, we shall never forget her.
