With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Carolyn Zuccato at Chilliwack General Hospital with her loving son Paul & daughter-in-law Krystal by her bedside.
Predeceased by her birth mother Irma, her young son Dean, her parents Gordon & Betty Buchanan, & her brothers Ron & Brian, Carolyn is survived by her husband Denis (Shelley), son Paul (Krystal) & grandchildren Jacob, Jackson & Alexis, with whom she spent this wonderful Christmas; sisters Sue (Jerry) & Patty (Bruce); nieces & nephews.
Born in High River, Alta, Carolyn grew up in Chilliwack, the eldest of 5 Buchanan children. Trained as a RN in Kamloops, Carolyn met & married Denis. They spent several years moving between BC & Alta as Denis was transferred & promoted at Woodward's stores; they eventually settled in Burnaby.
In 1986, Carolyn was head nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in New Westminster when a traumatic, debilitating illness put a halt to her career & rich social life. Though she was never able to work again & her health steadily deteriorated, Carolyn remained strong & resilient, never losing her sense of humour or zest for life. Even after her body let her down & she had to move into a care home, Carolyn's bright spirit inspired us all. She will be remembered with our deep love & affection.
A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Society or BC Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
