Forever In Our Hearts
Carl passed away suddenly on June 16, 2025, at Chilliwack General Hospital at the age of 85. He was born July 20, 1939, in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, NS. He was the third oldest of 13 children.
He was a military veteran, proudly serving over 25 years in the Canadian Armed Forces with the Royal Canadian Engineers. During his career, he served with peacekeeping forces in Egypt and Cyprus and was also posted to Werl and Lahr, Germany. He retired as a Master Warrant Officer. After leaving the military, he worked for the Langley School District and University College of the Fraser Valley.
Carl was a kind, caring and generous man with a great sense of humour. He cherished time spent with family and enjoyed country music and playing the guitar. His life was full and adventurous. He loved sports, coaching and participating in many, with hockey being his passion. He was an exceptional hockey player and played for the 1968 3-Field Squadron team who won the first ever Canadian Armed Forces Hockey Championship held in Ottawa. Scoring the winning goal in the final game was one of his
proudest moments. Another highlight for him was when that team was inducted into the Chilliwack Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Irene; children Lorne (Brenda), Rosemarie (Stuart); grandchildren Jenelle (Brady), Shannon, Joel (Remi), Ben; great grandchildren Beckett, London, Ezra, Keaton; and siblings Sylvia, Priscilla, Myron, Beth, Adie, Karen and many nieces and nephews.
Carl was predeceased by his parents Coral (Sony) and Elizabeth Marsh and siblings Thaddeus, Melvin, Gerard, Kenny, Kevin, and Lorne.
A small family gathering was held on June 25, 2025. There will be no funeral or memorial as per his wishes.
We will miss you and love you always.
Your hockey game down here has ended, and we know you will be a star in your new eternal league.
