Brian Michael Joyce
October 15, 1948 – June 17, 2016
Brian completed his final journey at Chilliwack, B.C at age 67 years. He was born at Oliver, BC and grew up in the interior. Brian is survived by his adoring wife Nancy, and a large loving blended family: Stephen (Stacey), Michael, Toni (Kevin), Jonathan (Patricia), Coral, Aaron (Tessa), Tertia and Tyson. Grandchildren Adrian and Elsa. Brother Doug (Glenda), sister Arlene (George), nephews Steve (Deb), Tyler (Danielle), Chandler (Stephanie), Christopher and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents Cyril and Leona, brothers Ken and Bill and his infant daughter. Brian loved learning and excelled at it winning honours and scholarships as he wended his way through his education: Graduated LVRogers High School, Nelson – 1966; UBC, BSc in Chemistry – 1970; University of Alberta, LLB – 1977. On being admitted to the BC Bar on July 10, 1978 he continued to practice law with the firm where he articled, Richards Buell Sutton. December 1989 he took an appointment as Master of the Supreme Court sitting in New Westminster. In April 2001 Brian donned his robes and began sitting as a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Chilliwack, BC. Brian loved the law and was passionate to the end about the work that he did. A private man, Brian was always happiest cooking for and surrounded by his many close friends and family. He loved traveling on well planned trips with Nancy and friends, or reading the paper and working the crossword on a Sunday. We will all continue honoring Brian in every great conversation, well cooked meal and happy hour with loved ones. Though he made many powerful contributions to law in our province, there was no greater gift than being loved by him and hearing him chuckle at a half-way decent joke.
