It is with much sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother after a long illness. Betty passed away peacefully at Heritage Village, Chilliwack on April 14, 2012 at the age of 85.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lynn (Miyagawa); sons, Keith and Brad; grandchildren, Kristy (Rempel) and Kyle; and great-grandchildren, Sadie and Mylan (Rempel). Sadly, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Rollie, and her son, Gary.

She was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and lived in numerous places across Canada as her husband’s position in management with Henry Birks & Sons required. After his retirement from the firm in 1976, they bought the Spa Motel in Harrison Hot Springs where Betty managed the busy gift shop. However, she still found time to enjoy curling, golf and bridge with the many friends she made in the Harrison/Agassiz community.

After relocating to Chilliwack in 1980, Betty made weekly excursions back to continue her bridge and golfing friendships. She loved to travel and spent many happy days in Hawaii, visiting her daughter on Maui or vacationing with Rollie in Waikiki.

Although the progression of Alzheimer’s disease gradually curtailed her day to day activities, her gregarious nature and ready smile shone through until her passing.

A private graveside service and interment of ashes were held at the Anglican Cemetery on April 28, 2012 with the Reverend Vern Tompke officiating.

Donations in Betty’s name may be made to the Alzheimer Society or a favourite charity.
