1940 ~ 2016
After battling lung cancer, Betty Gast passed away peacefully at home on September 7th, in the loving care of her husband and daughters. Born Elizabeth Joan Froese to Katie and C.A. Froese in 1940, in Humboldt Saskatchewan, moving to the Fraser Valley BC in 1942, Betty was raised on a dairy farm along with her 9 siblings. She trained at the RCH and nursed a total of 40 years. Betty loved sports & golfed hundreds of rounds at Kinkora Golf Club. She was an avid Scrabble player and was one of the earliest members of the Thursday night Chilliwack Scrabble Club founded by W.P. Kinsella. Betty shared 51 years of marriage with her husband, Gary, giving birth to daughters Karen and Heather. Pre-deceased by brothers Vic, Hugo, and Bob. She leaves to mourn, husband Gary, daughters Karen (Robin Reger) and Heather (Jeff Addley) and granddaughters Katie and Naomi Addley, sisters Irene (Nick Thiessen), Jenny (Jack Derksen), brothers Rudy (Elly), Fred, David (Michelle) and Allen (Cindy), sisters-in-law Carol and Lee, and many nieces & nephews.
Celebration of Life will be held October 23 at 1:30 pm at the Rainbow Country Inn, Best Western, Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers and/or sympathy cards, donations may be made to the Chilliwack Hospice Society.
