Bernhard WIENS

July 24, 2012

(Ben)

It is with great sadness that the family of Ben Wiens announce his passing on July 24, 2012 at the age of 81 years. He was born September 7, 1930 in Winkler, Manitoba, the 7th of 9 children.

He moved to the Chilliwack area in 1946 and lived in Greendale until 1977. Ben and Hilda were happily married for 54 years and raised three daughters, Cindy, Patti and Ginnie on the 8 acre family hobby farm in Greendale. He was a hard working man, always working more than one job. Ben was employed at Dairyland for 43 years as well as working with his brother Johnny doing electrical work and with his cousin Gerry, bricklaying.

In his spare time Ben took on demolition jobs and used the materials for building projects, including a new home he built on Promontory. He loved camping with his family and casino bus trips with Hilda. He loved woodworking in his workshop at home making birdhouses, benches, glider rockers, toys and a variety of other items… many of which he gave away to friends, family or charity. He was known for his generosity and sense of humour.

Ben is survived by his loving wife, Hilda (Honey); his daughters: Patti (David) Mann, and Ginnie (John) Frede; grandchildren: Aaron Frede, Josh Frede, Leah (Regan) Lavallee, Lauren (Zoltan) Szoges, Elliot Mann, Conner Mann and Drew Mann; his brothers and sisters: Chuck Wiens, Mary Dick, Johnny (Hilde) Wiens, Mandy (Mike) Hooge, and Helen (Joe) Macholka.
