Barrie Clarke passed away in Chilliwack on October 12th, 2024, at the age of 92 years. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Joan, son Murray with wife Donna (nee Martens), sons Andrew and Daniel and his children; and his son Dudley, wife Maria Alicia and his children Gavin and Willow.
He served as Canada's Head Soccer Coach for the Men's and Youth National Teams from 1978 to 1982 and was Canada's FIFA World Cup Soccer qualifiers coach in 1980 and 1981.
Barrie was born in Nottingham, UK on May 5th, 1932, graduated from Loughborough College as a teacher, later earning a Master of Education degree from Western Washington University.
Barrie and Joan moved to Zambia in 1964 where he worked at a teacher training college, before relocating permanently to Canada in 1967, making Chilliwack their home.
He was a high school teacher at Chilliwack, Vedder and AD Rundle schools until his retirement in the early 1990's.
Barrie simply loved children and to teach, having touched many students' lives through his extensive career in the UK, Zambia and Canada. Often when out in the Chilliwack community, ex-students would recognize him and share how much they had enjoyed having him as their teacher.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to kindly make a donation in support of the BC Children's Hospital.
Arrangements are in the care of Henderson's Funeral home Chilliwack, BC.
