Minnie Barbara Shannon

November 22, 1916 - February 12, 2017


Barbara Shannon, late of Chilliwack, passed away February 12, 2017 in Chilliwack General Hospital. She was born the third child of Henry and Minnie Braim on November 22, 1916, and was raised on their farm in Greendale. She was 100 years of age. In 1941 mom married Hugh Shannon and while dad was overseas in World War II, she enlisted in the CWAC and was stationed at Camp Chilliwack. She was proud of her service in the army and would often reminisce about her time there. When dad came home at the end of the war, they purchased a VLA home, where mom lived until the end of her life. She enjoyed visiting with family, baking, sewing and knitting and was famous in the family for her homemade dandelion wine. She was predeceased by her husband Hugh, sisters Etta Reitz, Verona and Daphne Shannon, brother Roydon Braim, and grandson Dave Klassen. She is survived by her daughter Karen (Wally) Klassen, son and caregiver Michael, brother-in-law Henry Shannon, grandchildren Eileen (Ed) Menger, Wendy Guliker, Paul (Denise) Klassen, great-grandchildren Jonathan, Nicole (Josh), Rebekah, Zachary, Amanda (Matt), David (Alissa) and Aaron, and great-great-grandchildren Barret, Ava, Stella and Archer. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday,

February 25, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Henderson's Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
