January 25, 1929 – February 6, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Annie Braun at the age of 84 – beloved wife, mother, grandma, oma, sister, aunt and friend.

Annie was born in Altonau, Sagradowka, Ukraine to Gerhard & Maria Peters. Her early years were marked by hardship in a politically unstable country, the war years and the trek westward. She immigrated to Canada in 1948 with her mother, siblings and nephew. She met and then married Henry Braun in 1951 and settled in Sardis to raise their family. Annie was a homemaker, gardener, and baker extraordinaire who enjoyed welcoming friends and family to share in her warm hospitality with tasty treats and coffee around the kitchen table. A member of Eden Mennonite Church, she was a dedicated volunteer who expressed her faith through service and care for others. Our parents loved the Fraser Valley and lived on Evans Road and then Fern Street before retiring to Airport Road in Chilliwack.

Annie is lovingly remembered by Henry, her husband of 61 years, her children: Helen (Harry) Pauls, Garry (Sandy) Braun, Betty (Simon) Stubbs, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, brothers George & Peter and sister Tina. She was predeceased by her parents, brother John and sisters Marie & Elizabeth.

Special thanks to the wonderful nurses at Vancouver General Hospital who cared for our mom and supported our family in her final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 23 at 2:00 pm at Eden Mennonite Church in Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee (Material Aid) since mom was a committed volunteer in preparing material resources such as quilts and bandages for others in need through MCC.
