It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Allan Murray Appleton, 54, following a sudden and short battle with Pancreatic cancer ending May 18, 2013 in Calgary Alberta. 

Al was born on November 29th 1958 in Toronto Ontario He grew up in Mississauga. He graduated from and spoke often about University of Guelph in Ontario in 1979. After University he began work in Horticultural sales where he worked for 32 years finishing his career at Professional Gardener in Calgary Alberta. 

In 1982, Al married Frances Christina Kelly in Mississauga Ontario. They were happily married for 30 years.

He enjoyed painting, playing the guitar, fishing, gardening, spending time with family as well as his time spent developing the property in the Cariboo area of BC 

Al was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Kathleen Appleton and his brothers Norman and Grant. Allan is survived by his beloved wife Frances (nee Kelly) of Calgary Alberta;  his son, Robert (Melissa), his grandchildren Justin, Hayden and Callie of Devon Alberta; his daughters Christina  (Adam Forcier) of Abbotsford BC; and Theresa of Vancouver BC.  He is also survived by his brothers John (Barb) Lindsay, ON, Richard (Dorothy) Victoria BC, Robert (Judy), Peterborough, ON, Gordon, Mississauga, ON, sister Irene (John)Brown – Antigonish, NS, Sister-in-law Susan Appleton, Toronto, ON and his nieces and nephews and other relatives. Special mention to his “adopted” sisters and brothers, Anne and Barry Fraser, Uxbridge, ON, Ken Kelly, Toronto, ON, Phil and Maria Kelly, Montreal, QC, Brendan and Nancy Kelly, Montreal, QC, Dennis and Maureen Kelly, Ajax, ON. He loved you all as much as you loved him.

A prayer service will be held at the chapel of Pierson’s Funeral Home, 4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 10:00 am followed by a reception.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 8909 Mary Street, Chilliwack BC on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 1:00 pm. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery immediately following. Reception in church hall. Prayers will take place on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 6:00 – 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in his name to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Calgary, AB or Stollery Children’s Hospital, Edmonton, AB or a charity of your choosing.
