March 1, 2008

nee MacKenzie

(Aug. 17, 1921 - March 1, 2008)

It is with great sadness we mark the passing of Alice Mitchell (nee MacKenzie) after a lengthy illness. Her loving niece Audrey was at her side.

She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Larry in 2005, brothers: Les, Ken, Donald and John; and sisters:Rosie and Tess.

She is survived by her “children”: Audrey (Ron) MacMillan of Chilliwack; Dwain (Beth) MacKenzie of Kaledan; and Sandi Gilmer of Vancouver; brother: Bob (Doris) MacKenzie of Nanaimo; and sister: Bunty (Tom) Elder of Bellingham.

She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Steven (Leanne) MacMillan and Collin (Laura Denser) MacMillan of Chilliwack, Ross MacKenzie, Carol (Wade) Ingledew of Victoria and Lori (Brooks) Lancaster of Penticton.

She leaves behind great-grandchildren Caden and Mitchell of Chilliwack and Kayla and Grady of Penticton.

Alice, or Allie as most knew her, was born in Victoria and raised in Tofino. She married the love of her life Larry Mitchell, in 1944 and moved to Ucluelet where Larry was stationed as a firefighter in the RCAF.

After the war they relocated to Chilliwack and remained there until their deaths.

Anyone who knew Allie and Larry knew their door was always open.

Allie was an avid golfer and curler. She golfed well into her eighties only stopping when her illness made it too difficult.

She also enjoyed entertaining in her home as well as a trip to a casino every now and then.

There will be a celebration of her life at the Chilliwack Legion on Sunday, March 9, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
