Alice Ada RISSLING

June 22, 2002

On Saturday, June 22, 2002 Mom went home to Heaven. Alice was born in Cowley, Alta., on August 6, 1913, the eldest child of James and Ada Freeman. She attended Normal School in Calgary, Alta., and realized her dream of becoming a teacher. Alice had her hands full teaching all 12 grades in a one-room school in Mud Lake, Alta. In 1935, she married Peter Rissling in Blue Sky, Alta. They moved to Trail, spent many years in Dawson Creek, and retired to Chilliwack in 1973.


Alice was predeceased by her son Frank in 1947; and her husband Pete, in 1982. She is survived by her children, Shirley (Jim) Switzer of Chilliwack, Jim (Annabelle) of Chilliwack, Diane (Ed) Regnier of Mission, and John (Marianne) of Ladner; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother Harvey of Devon, Alta.; and one sister Dorothy of Spokane, WA.


A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2002 at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home in Chilliwack. Reverend Harald Throness officiating. If friends so wish, donations in Alice’s memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, 250 Bloor St. E., Suite 1000, Toronto, Ont. M4W 3P9, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 7100 Woodbine Ave., Suite 311, Markham, Ont. L3R 5J2.
