Jul 22, 1939 - Mar 17, 2018
We are sad to announce that on March 17, 2018 Al "Fritz" passed away at his home in Powell River after a re-occurrence of cancer.

Al was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan but moved to Chilliwack at age 6. There wasn't a sport that Al couldn't play. He had a passion for hockey, lacrosse and baseball. Later in life his passion was golfing and he was on the course at every opportunity. He worked at the Chilliwack Progress for over 25 years. He loved to talk about the change-over from manual presses and manual typesetting to computerization. After "retirement" he went on to sell cars at Brett's (Barnes-Wheaton) and later at Mertin's. He said that if he had known how much he loved sales he would have embarked upon that career sooner. It's likely that it was mostly because he got to socialize most of the day and then head to the golf course.

Al passed many years volunteering his time. He was involved with girl's softball (coaching daughter Karen) and youth soccer (coaching son Eric). He, also, spent many years involved with Sr. Men's baseball. He was most proud of the years he spent on the YMCA board of directors. His latest endeavour had been spent on the Atchelitz Farmer's Institute Hall board of directors.

He is survived by his wife Glenda. His daughter Karen (Rich), daughter Laural (Patrice) and son Eric (Jenine). His grandchildren Tyler, Jake, Caleb, Felix and Frances.

The family is grateful for the wonderful supportive care provided by the medical professionals in Powell River. His daughter Laural was an amazing and dedicated caregiver for her father and this allowed him to stay at home surrounded by family.

Come join us for a Celebration of Life, Saturday May 5th, at the Atchelitz Farmer's Institute Hall, 6542 Lickman Rd, from 2:00 - 4:00. Bring your stories to share with us.
