Alexander Johannes Van Haaster

January 14, 1968 – May 31, 2022
With a lifetime of great memories, but with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Alexander (Al) Van Haaster. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He passed away peacefully on Monday, May 31st.
He is predeceased by his mother, Alida; and father, Theodorus; and two brothers, Johnnie and Louie.
Al is survived by his daughter, Amanda (son-in-law Sam), and granddaughter, Abigail; and his son, Rodney, and grandsons, Theo, and Lorenzo; as well as his sister, Trudy, and brothers, Peter (Judy), Ted (Kathy), and nieces: Charlene, Gina, Shelley, Tara; and nephews: Nico, Steven, Jamie, and Tomas.
Al grew up on a flower farm in Bradner; and loved the outdoors and going camping and dirt-biking. He was renowned for his excellent work in his long-time career as a gas fitter for Alpha Fireplaces. And, Al took great pride in his home. He always had home improvement projects on the go and would happily give tours and explanations of any new project. Al was kind-hearted and the first to offer to help anyone in need. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who loved his family with all his heart. Nothing made him happier then spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He would say, “Aren’t they just great?” with a smile on his face.
He was looking forward to a long life spent with family when cancer cut his plans short. During his battle, he was courageous, loving, strong, peaceful, and inspiring, and came to be known as “Super Alan.” He leaves a huge void in our family’s life and will be deeply missed, but, he also looked forward to being in heaven where there is no more sorrow, pain, or death. We want to thank the staff at Chilliwack Hospital, the Abbotsford Cancer Center, and specifically, Dr. Allison Salter for her care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the B.C. Cancer Society.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
