Don passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer on Friday, September 14, 2007.
Don was born on December 3, 1939 in Windsor, Ontario.
In 1960, Don joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he spent the next 34 years in honourable service to his country.
He made Chilliwack his home in 1988, and is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Helen.
Don also leaves behind two adoring children; his son, Don (Mary) Marsden of Chilliwack and a daughter, Sherry-Lynn (Stephen) MacLeish of Edmond, Oklahoma; his seven grandchildren whom he completely adored; Anthony MacLeish of Borden, Ontario, Jesse MacLeish of Edmond, Oklahoma; Meghan Marsden, Chilliwack, Morgan Marsden, Chilliwack, Matthew Marsden, Chilliwack, Tristin MacLeish, Edmond and Reece MacLeish, Edmond. Mention must also be made of his honourary son, Fred (Karen) Gunn and his three children, of Port Moody.
Don’s hobbies included woodworking, reading, and a passion for old movies. But most of all he will be remembered for his love and utter devotion to the Tigers and the Detroit Red Wings.
A memorial service in celebration of Don’s life was held Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave. with reception to follow.
If family and friends so desire, memorial donations in Don’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society
