HERON, Alan George

February 21, 1959 - July 29, 2016

It is with overwhelming sadness we announce the passing of Alan George Heron. He was born in Scarborough, Ontario and after high school, attended the George Brown Culinary Institute where he became a Red Seal Chef. He worked as an executive chef in such places as the Hotel Vancouver, Chateau Whistler and the Pacific Pallisades to name a few. He had a deep love of cooking and loved to cook & BBQ for everyone. After a knee injury he was forced to retire from cooking and became a care aide in 2008. He was a dedicated care aide who often went over and above for his residents at the Bradley Centre & Heritage Village. At Christmas he would cook turkey dinners with all the trimmings for the residents and it's there he met his love, Yvonne.

Alan had a passion for golf and you could often find him on the golf course with his step son Jordan or his best friends Garth and Doug. His best days were going "Garthing with Golf". He leaves to mourn his beloved spouse, Yvonne, step father Allan Murray, step children Brandon (Bekah), Jennifer (Ray), Jordan (Sheridan) and Caitlin (William). Siblings Allison Gilbert Heron and Margaret Stevenson. Nieces Jessica Gilbert, Carrie (Joel) Urquahart, Nicole Meeker & Sarah Stevenson. Nephews Matthew Gilbert (Penny) and James Meeker. Great nieces and nephews Isabella, Lucy, Marcus, Aden, Aneisha and Jager. Step grandchildren who loved their "Ayen", Kyra, Gabriel and Caleb. He was predeceased by his parents, Alex Heron in July 1986 and Joyce Murray in July 2015.

Special thanks to Dr. Bull, Tara and the excellent staff at Cascade Hospice, and the amazing outpouring of love, kindness & prayers from the crews at Bradley Centre, Heritage Village and the nursing staff on the acute side. A huge thank-you to Nancy Munro and Aira Vainio for being towers of strength with hearts of gold.

Alan requested no funeral service, but instead a Celebration of Life which will be announced soon.

Alan has left a big "teddy bear hole" in this world.
