It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Mother.
Aileen Patricia Mathews passed on peacefully with family by her side on February 2, 2018.
Aileen was born in Abagallon, Ireland and along with her parents and siblings (Anne, Peter, Harry and Willie John) they immigrated to Canada in 1926. The family lived in St. Paul, Alberta when Mom worked as a Nurse' Aid prior to meeting her husband our dear father Edward William Mathews they were married 64 years prior to the passing of our Dad January 12, 2009.
Mom lived her life to the fullest and she enjoyed spending time making loving memories with her family and friends. Mom loved camping, gardening, dancing and entertaining. Mom also loved bowling and was on a league here in Chilliwack right up until the age of "90".
Our family home was filled with music, love and laughter. She lived there until she was 92 and then moved to the Birchwood Residence which was often referred to as her "cruiseship". She spent the last two years there and she loved all of the staff and residents. She enjoyed partaking in many of the fun daily activities.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff for making her stay there a memorable one. We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Dutoit and his receptionist for providing our mother with the utmost loving care along with all of the staff who cared for mom in her final days at Chilliwack General Hospital and for her neighbours in the hospital for watching over her and making sure she had her cookies.
Mom is survived by: Frances Mathews (Alan), Lorna Rusnak (Craig), Marilyn Stevens (Warren), Leanne Rasmussen (Eric) along with many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, one sister (Anne) and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward William Mathews and siblings (Willie John, Peter, Harry, and Frances) and her parents.
A small memorial will take place to celebrate her life on February 16, 2018 at Henderson's Funeral Home at 1:00. Tea to follow.
