Agnes RINAS

Agnes Rinas passed away peacefully May 27, 2004 in Chilliwack at the Valley Haven Home at the age of 87.  She was born on November 22nd, Saint Cecilia Day, the Patron Saint of Music. 

 Agnes taught piano in Chilliwack for over 50 years.  She was a member of the BC Registered Music Teachers Association from 1947 to 1997.  Several of her students have become piano teachers too. She was actively involved as organist, pianist and choir director with the Baptist churches.

Travel was her passion. She spent the summers of her teaching career travelling and exploring in more than 20 countries.

Her faith in God, family and good friends enabled her to remain positive in looking forward to her heavenly home.

Agnes is survived by the sons and daughters of her sister, Mabel Neher.  Marilyn Saunders, Gwen Smith, John (Jean) Neher, Garth  (Joy) Tyler-Neher, Colleen Friedrick, Russell (Sandy) Neher and 7 great nieces & nephews and 6 great great nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by several cousins, one of whom is Duke Wetzler residing in Portland.

Agnes was predeceased by her father Gus Rinas in 1984, her mother Martha Rinas in 1987 and her sister Mabel Neher in 1999.

 The memorial service will be at the Chilliwack Baptist Church, 1st Ave and Charles St., on Thursday, June 3, 2004.  There will be a musical prelude starting at 1 p.m. Desert and tea will be served in the Henderson’s Tea Room after the graveside farewell.

 It is Agnes’s wish to be surrounded by flowers. The flowers will be given to the Valley Haven Home and the Palliative Ward at the Chilliwack Hospital.
