It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Adriaan Maljaars. Archie passed away on Oct 19, 2021, surrounded by family at Sunset Manor after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease and later with dementia.
Dad will be sadly missed by Joann (VanderSpek) his wife of 53 years. Dad is survived by his children Doug and Leanne Maljaars, Judy and Brent Royal, Ed and Laura Maljaars, Rick Maljaars, Wendy and Richard Timmers, Tom and Katrina Maljaars, Nancy and Jack Klaassen, Ron and Willemijn Maljaars, Steve Maljaars, Sharon and John Erkelens, Fran and Kevin Romeyn, Dennis and Tabitha Maljaars and Emily and Jon Van Huigenbos as well as 48 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, siblings and in-laws. Dad was predeceased by his parents and daughter Laura.
Dad was born on Nov 1st, 1946, in Serooskerke, The Netherlands. His family immigrated shortly after the Great Flood of 1953 and settled in Chilliwack. Dad was an avid dairy farmer and farmed on his Prairie Central Road farm till retirement. He was a strong supporter of his church and Timothy Christian School.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Sunset Manor care home or Timothy Christian School would be gratefully accepted. Many thanks to Rev. Van Ruitenburg and consistory for the care and support shown to Dad, Mom and family.
Thanks, as well to Dr. Tompkins and CGH staff for care received. As well we cannot express enough our gratitude to Sunset Manor and staff - Cathy Vrieselaar and all the very devoted staff (both current and past) who very lovingly cared for "Uncle Archie".
An opportunity to express condolences was given on Monday, October 25, 2021, from 6:30-7:30 pm at the Bethel Netherlands Reformed Church activity room. The funeral was held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at 1:30 pm in the Bethel Netherlands Reformed Church, 8920 Broadway Street, Chilliwack, with Rev. E. Maljaars officiating. All are invited to the interment to follow at Chilliwack Cemeteries, 10010 Hillcrest Drive. All this the Lord willing.
