It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Abram Dyck. He passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord on May 17, 2008 at the Heritage Village Care Home in Chilliwack.

He is survived by his wife, Katharina; his brothers, David (Germany) and Henry (Ontario); his sons, Abram (Erna), Peter (Lydia), Henry, Rudy (Susan) and Robert; his grandchildren, Robert, Greg (Michelle), Brian, Jason, Andreas, Walter and Peter; and his great grandchildren, Lukas, Ryan and Brendan.

He was born December 28, 1910, in Chortitza, Russia and grew up on his parent’s farm in the Ukraine, moved to Germany in the 1940’s and finally settled in Chilliwack with his family in 1955 and continued working in his trade, carpentry.

He began his career in building as a teenager in Russia and continued in Germany working on many commercial projects, then after coming to Chilliwack, he continued his love for construction, first working for several contractors and finally working on his own as a builder/contractor. For thirty years he built many homes in the area, always giving the best he possibly could. All who came in contact with him knew him to be generous, honest and hard working.

Abe will be missed by all who came to know him, his friends and family.

There will be a viewing for family and friends Wednesday, May 21, 2008 between 7-9 pm at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave.

Interment will be at Vedder View Gardens Cemetery, 44675 Watson Rd, Sardis on May 22 at 11:00 am.

Memorial Services will be held at Eden Mennonite Church, 46551 Chilliwack Central Rd on May 22 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, a donation for a park bench in Abram Dyck’s honour would be appreciated.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the Doctors and the nurses at Valleyhaven and Heritage Village who cared for Abram so well during his time with them.
