Mary Hamm passed away on December 13, 2008 at the age of 85.

Mary leaves behind her husband, Alfred; her children, Alvin (Suzanne), Viola, Esther (Don), Sharon (Clive), Patricia; her brothers and sisters, Melita, Naomi (Cornie), Betty, Ed (Mary), Joan (Don), Bert (Elsie); her grandchildren, Jim (Keri), Matthew, Daniel (Esther), Jeremiah (Cherie), Andre, Greg, Alex, Rebekah; her great-grandchildren, Coner, Owen, Adeline.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Maria Krause; and her son, Edwin; her brother, Carl; her son-in-law, Ron (Viola).

Mary was born October 5, 1923 in Gnadenfeld, Molochna, Russia. In 1924 she immigrated with her parents to Canada, where they settled initially in Saskatchewan, subsequently moving to Yarrow in 1928, becoming one of first pioneer families in that community.

In 1944, she married Alfred Hamm, settling in Chilliwack. There they established a home and raised six children. Mary was active in the Central Community Church, volunteering in a variety of services. She was an excellent homemaker, a wonderful cook, and an avid gardener. And for many years she worked for Chilliwack Community Services as a home aide.

In her latter years, Mary continued to be very active in supporting and loving her family. And she also kept herself busy by crocheting many blankets for the needy.

Her faith sustained her to the end. She will be deeply missed.

Viewing for family and friends will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 7 pm at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack.

Internment will be at the Yarrow Cemetery at Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 10:30 am.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 1:30 pm at the Central Community Church, 46100 Chilliwack Central Rd.
