A 12-year-old boy who was hit by a vehicle Wednesday morning in Chilliwack was not injured, said RCMP.
Originally, emergency crews on scene called it a hit-and-run as the driver was not there when they arrived on scene.
The female driver, however, did stop and check to make sure the boy was OK and then left before emergency personnel arrived, said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail.
“There was a violation ticket served,” he added, but couldn’t comment on what the offence was.
The boy was in a crosswalk when the incident happened around 8:30 a.m. in the 6500-block of Vedder Road.
It is a busy road for both vehicles and pedestrians at that time of day as many kids cross the street while walking to school in the area.
Rail reminded drivers to “be cognizant of pedestrians in intersections.”
A witness called 911 when the collision happened. The boy’s parents arrived on scene and he went home with them.
Chilliwack Fire Department, BC Ambulance Service and RCMP all attended the incident.
