Yale man arrested after fleeing police in downtown Hope

Man arrested on three outstanding warrants after being caught in stolen van

A stolen van was recovered in downtown Hope on Saturday evening, resulting in the arrest of a man from Yale.

Cpl. Mike Rail of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment said the white Ford van was stolen from Burnaby earlier that day, and spotted by a general duty officer during a regular patrol of the area.

When he pulled the vehicle over, the 49-year-old occupant got out and started to walk away. When more officers arrived on scene, the man began to run away and police cordoned off the area, Rail said.

“We was later identified and arrested on three outstanding warrants from Surrey,” Rail said.

The incident took place at about 7 p.m. Saturday at around Sixth Ave. and Wallace.
