September is continuing the trend of record-breaking temperatures in Chilliwack and across the Lower Mainland.
“It was the warmest night ever recorded in Chilliwack!” reported Roger Pannett, volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada, referring to overnight Labour Day.
A high all-time minimum of 22.6 degrees Celsius for Sept. 5 made for a steamy night, as it was more than 12 degrees above normal.
The daytime high of 36.4 C for Monday was the record-breaking hottest day of summer 2017, said Pannett.
It was a hazy, hot day with 23 per cent relative humidity.

“It was the second hottest September day in the past 138 years,” said Pannett, after the 36.5 C max on September 3, 1988.
It was also the hottest Labour Day on record.
There was also also a day and all-time September mean record set of 28.0 C (11.5 oC above normal!).
Previous mean record 23.3 C in 1955 and exceeding the previous all-time high September mean of 26.05 C recorded on September 11, 2013.
