Walt Krahn takes over as interim chair of the school board

Chair of the Chilliwack board of education, Louise Piper, has resigned due to medical reasons.

Chair of the Chilliwack board of education, Louise Piper, has resigned due to medical reasons. She will return as a board trustee in August 2013.

Trustee Walt Krahn, previously the board vice-chair, has been elected as the chair. He will keep that position until the next election in December 2013.

"Serving as a chair takes a great deal of additional work," said Krahn. "I'm pleased. I've been serving as the acting chair since January, so it has been five months now. I've quite enjoyed it."

Piper has been on medical leave since that time.

"The entire board of school trustees wish trustee Piper a full and complete recovery, and look forward to her return at the board table," said Krahn.

Piper was elected as chair in December 2011. All chair terms are for one year.
