Cars in ditches, flooded fields, blocked roads.
The record-breaking rain that rocked the province in the 24 hours leading up to Monday caused driving chaos in the eastern Fraser Valley cities of Chilliwack and Abbotsford.
While helicopters were dispatched to rescue stranded travellers on the Lougheed Highway, and landslides rocked Highway 1 east of Chilliwack and destroyed portions of the Coquihalla, the biggest issued hitting local residents was flooded basements.
Evacuation orders were in place for a small number of homes in Chilliwack Proper and the Chilliwack River Valley, while local states of emergency were declared in both Chilliwack and the City of Abbotsford.
A landslide rocked Vedder Road just north of the Vedder Bridge early Monday morning and was not cleared by 4 p.m.
