The Vedder Bridge replacement project drew a crowd Tuesday as the bridge deck was hoisted into place.

Construction crews had spent weeks assembling the structure on the north side of the river, then used cranes to haul the steel frame into place.

The move was slow going, taking most of the day to make the narrow crossing.

But that didn’t detract the curious – some of whom spent hours on the bleachers set up by the City of Chilliwack to accommodate the onlookers.

Substantial completion of the $12.5 million bridge replacement project is expected by Fall 2017.
