RCMP were on scene at First Avenue Thursday morning where they have blocked off a section of the road between Coote and Windsor streets.

Police investigators have identified the victim in Thursday’s suspicious death in Chilliwack. He is 31-year-old Harjit (Stefan) Singh Kondolay.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, which had taken over investigation of the incident, said Kondolay was not known to police.

Local RCMP have since handed the investigation over to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

“I can confirm that IHIT has now taken conduct of this investigation,” said RCMP Sgt. Bari Emam of IHIT. “Our investigators are working with members of the Chilliwack RCMP and will examine the scene in an attempt to determine what took place.

“We are in the initial hours of the investigation and many details surrounding this death are not known at this time.”
