A 65-year-old Surrey woman is dead after a head-on crash late Sunday night.

The collision occurred shortly before midnight on Highway 10 near 176th Street in Cloverdale.

Police say the victim was driving a red Civic and travelling westbound on Highway 10 when she was hit head-on by a Camry heading eastbound.

Images from the scene show a completely destroyed red Honda and a silver vehicle with its front and left side smashed in.

Reports say that the woman driving the red Honda was killed when the silver car lost control and swerved across several lanes of traffic.

The driver of the silver car, a 28-year-old Delta man, is in hospital with what police describe as serious, but not life threatening injuries.

Highway 10 was closed for several hours following the crash, but has since reopened.

Police say speed and impairment have been ruled out as factors in the collision.

This is the city’s 13th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 14 in all of 2016.
