Chilliwack woke up to an additional 22 centimetres of snow Sunday morning, bringing the three-day total from Friday morning to 77.2 cm, said Roger Pannett, volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada.
The monthly average for snowfall in February is just 17 cm.
“Unbelievable!” said Pannett.
The snow began falling on Friday, with accumulations of 34.4cm.
It continued Saturday with another 42.8 cm.
Total snow on the ground Sunday morning, said Pannett, was 57 cm – and that didn’t include drifts.
The snow forced the closure of both the Cheam and Landing Leisure Centres on Sunday.
Chilliwack public schools will be closed Monday for both students and staff, the Chilliwack school district announced Sunday. Also affected are all daycares, rentals community school events.
The City of Chilliwack has asked residents to stay off the roads unless necessary.
"Although crews and equipment are working around the clock to remove snow, the roads are currently hazardous for driving," the city posted on its website. "Crews will be getting to the residential areas throughout the day and overnight.
"If you do not need to go out, please stay home."
And the snow isn’t done yet. Light snow is expected overnight, and throughout the week, turning to rain by Thursday.
There's no word yet on school closures.
