The University of the Fraser Valley and the union representing its faculty and staff are at loggerheads and due to appear before the province’s labour relations board this week.

Details haven’t been publicly disclosed, and representatives from UFV and the union – the UFV Faculty and Staff Association (FSA) – declined to comment. But the two parties are scheduled for a formal hearing over three days this week, beginning Wednesday.

An email sent to FSA members by president Sean Parkinson said: “The FSA executive is currently engaged in some extraordinary challenges, and this bulletin is intended to update members on the constraints we are facing in effectively managing the work of the union.” The bulletin says that preliminary hearings have forced UFV “to provide access to FSA files” and required to grant leave to union representatives serving as contract administrators.
