Thief couldn't have planned it any worse

Of all the places to try and steal from this week, a brazen thief walked into the Chilliwack Curling Club. Bad choice.

An early contender for dumbest criminal of the year has emerged in Chilliwack.

Chilliwack Curling Club manager Bruce Renwick said a man came into the building Wednesday afternoon and headed into the change room, emerging moments later with a duffel bag.

As he passed through the lobby he grabbed another duffel bag and bolted out the side door.

Brilliant right?

Nope.

The problem for this particular thief is that the Chilliwack Curling Club is hosting the 2016 Canadian Police Curling Championships all this week.

The first duffel bag the suspect grabbed belonged to a member of Team Ontario. In plain view of five off-duty police offers, he grabbed the second bag which belonged to a member of Team Newfoundland.

As he emerged into the sunshine he was surrounded by 10 officers.

“It’s got to rank up there in the halls of stupidity,” Renwick chuckled. “Trying to steal from a building full of off-duty cops!”

Local police were called to take him away.
