Purple lights are being illuminated across Chilliwack to take a stand against domestic violence.

The annual tree-lighting kickoff for Chilliwack Purple Light Nights will be a Facebook Live event Friday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m.

“For the month of October we are asking everyone to shine a purple light to help honour victims and survivors of domestic violence, and send a message that domestic violence has no place in our community,” according to the Chilliwack Purple Light Nights committee.

Every year since 2006, purple light bulbs are made available for purchase from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31 at locations around Chilliwack including: Wilma’s Transition Society, Payton and Buckle, Mary’s on Wellington, Ann Davis Transition Society, The Button Box Boutique, Thrive Collective, Fortins Home Hardware, Garrison Wine, Jolly Miller Pub, Eagle Landing Liquor Store, Luna Float, Kauri Chiropractic, Vale Family Law, Pick Eco Refills, The Book Man, Illusion Hair Studio, A Bridge to Better Living Society, Ascend Fitness.

This year they have masks as well as lights, and wrist bands. University of the Fraser Valley Bookstore has Purple Light Nights T-shirts on sale.
