Surrey man dies after crash on Chilliwack logging road

Motorcyclist succumbs to injuries six days after crashing into a pickup truck that initially left the scene of the accident.

A 26-year-old Surrey man has died from injuries suffered six days ago in a two-vehicle crash on a logging road near Chilliwack.

Police said Eric Casey O'Hern died in early Friday morning at the Royal Columbian Hospital where he was airlifted after the Aug. 5 accident.

Another Surrey man, 28-year-old Grahame Jeffrey Johnstone, is now charged with one count of failure to remain at the scene of the accident.

O'Hern was reportedly riding a motorcycle along the Chipmunk Creek forest service road when the collision with a pickup truck occurred at about 2:30 p.m.

The steep, winding, logging road runs north from Chilliwack Lake Road in the Chilliwack River Valley.

Police were not available Friday to comment on whether additional charges would be laid now that O'Hern has died from his injuries.

Johnstone reportedly turned himself in to police after initially leaving the scene.

Anyone who has information about the accident is asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
