Staff at Fraser Valley Aboriginal Children and Family Services Society (FVACFSS), held a rally Thursday night in Chilliwack to draw attention to what they say is a crisis in aboriginal child and family services in the Fraser Valley.

The workers of FVACFSS, formerly known as Xyolhemeylh, decided to join the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU) to address workload issues, but have been waiting since June to have the vote counted so they can join the union.

In the meantime they said in a release they are “concerned that aboriginal children and families are not getting the care they deserve” because of untenable caseloads at the agency.

BCGEU represents Ministry of Children and Family Development social workers and those at delegated aboriginal agencies like the Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society and Métis Family Services.
