Snow started falling early afternoon on Monday in Chilliwack, and a snowfall warning was issued shortly after that.

The area could see anywhere from 15 to 25 cm of snow overnight, according to the warning from Environment Canada. While many areas will see that snow turn to rain through the evening, that’s not expected to happen in Chilliwack and other parts of the eastern Fraser Valley.

At 2 p.m. Monday, Environment Canada stated that “over Howe Sound and eastern Fraser Valley, precipitation will persist as snow through tonight. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are forecast for these regions.”

They are reminders drivers to adjust their speed with changing road conditions, and to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

They also issued a snowfall warning for the Coquihalla, from Hope to Merritt, at about 4 p.m. Monday.

“Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions,” they said. Watch for updated statements. Please refer to the latest public forecasts for further details and continue to monitor the situation through your local radio and television stations or Weatheradio.”
