The Sardis Neighbourhood Plan has been developed and refined with a fine-toothed comb since last summer and a draft plan is now ready for citizen feedback.
The idea was to help plan for growth and determine what Sardis will ultimately look like in the future when it sees an influx more more than 6,800 people who will live in 4,000 new dwellings.
Given the pandemic there will be no public meetings to review the draft Sardis plan and collect feedback, so instead, they’ve created a website, according to City of Chilliwack planning staff.
The website brings together interactive story boards, updates and a survey combined in one, as well as summaries of the extensive engagement already completed.
So far they’ve had an online community survey, an open house and workshop (pre-pandemic), and more.
Survey respondents were asked about their greatest concerns for Sardis and the answers were: traffic, safety, speed and housing affordability in descending order.
Key long-term directions of the Sardis plan:
• Support more intensive growth in central areas close to neighbourhood amenities
• Encourage more diverse and affordable housing
• Enhance the Vedder Corridor to support business vitality and improve pedestrian comfort and safety
• Develop new park space in North Sardis
• Enhance existing trails and creek corridors
• Transform the Sardis commercial core into a vibrant district

Anyone interested in offering further feedback on the draft plan is asked to review the Sardis Neighbourhood Plan as it stands now, and fill out the survey by Oct. 9.
