The Chilliwack Salvation Army is hoping to hand out nearly 10,000 dozen eggs and 4,000 of pounds of cheese to first responders this weekend.
The local Sally Ann was recently gifted 11 pallets stacked high with 9,955 dozen eggs from Golden Valley Foods, plus boxes full of pre-sliced provolone cheese from BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation.
On Saturday, the eggs and cheese will be given out first to the community’s emergency responders and healthcare workers as a thank-you for their service.
After they’ve served the first responders, the general public will be able to get in on the offer.
From 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, first responders can swing by the Salvation Army Church at 46420 Brooks Ave. and pick up a flat of eggs and some cheese via the drive-through service.
After that, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, anyone else who is in need of eggs and cheese is welcome to stop by.
There will be about eight volunteers helping to distribute the food that morning.
Last month, the Chilliwack Salvation Army partnered with several other organizations to help feed the growing number of hungry children and their families. They have been handing out weekly hampers since April 8.
Additionally, the Sally Ann is the location for the United Way of the Lower Mainland’s new ‘Local Love Food Hubs’ initiative to support skyrocketing need for food during COVID-19.
