National Police Week - May 9 to May 16 - was a week-long opportunity to foster connections between police and the communities they serve.

It was also a chance to salute award winners from the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment (UFVRD), said Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail.

Exceptional performances and selfless acts were in the spotlight during the ‘Recognizing Excellence’ awards recently presented in separate ceremonies by RCMP Supt. Bryon Massie, Officer-in-Charge of UFVRD.

Awards were handed out for heroic rescues, saving the lives of people in distress, and complex investigations that led to key arrests and charges.

“It remains my privilege to salute each recipient for their dedication, determination and courage to achieve extraordinary accomplishments in these unprecedented times,” said Massie. “I applaud the community, family, friends, and co-workers who support our officers in their day-to-day commitment to the communities they serve.”

The theme for police week 2021 is ‘Working together to keep our communities safe.’

“There is no doubt that the pandemic has been challenging for many people in our community,” said Rail. “We want you to know that the RCMP officers and support staff of the UFVRD remain dedicated to the safety of our communities. We are proud to serve you and continue to work together with our community partners throughout the Upper Fraser Valley to ensure public safety.”
