A record about of rain fell in Chilliwack on Monday, and the storm is not done yet.
Environment Canada renewed its rainfall warning for the eastern Fraser Valley Tuesday morning, predicting another 15 to 40 millimetres of rain by Wednesday.
That’s on top of the nearly 88 mm of rain that fell since Sunday, according to Roger Pannett, volunteer weather watcher for Environment Canada.
Monday’s rainfall amount – 76.2 mm – smashed the previous Nov. 26 record of 40.9 mm set in 1903.
It was also the wettest Chilliwack November day since the 77.8 mm record rainfall on Nov. 1 2004, Pannett added.
Although the overnight rain eased on Tuesday morning, Environment Canada is expected another pulse of wet weather to hit the area.
“The frontal system will shift east today, but unstable conditions in its wake will maintain showers over the south coast through tonight.,” the weather office said. “Additional rainfall amounts will be variable, and will range from 15 to 40 mm by Wednesday morning.”
The rainfall has prompted several high streamflow advisories for the south coast, including the Chilliwack River and surrounding tributaries.
The river gauge at the Vedder Bridge climbed from 1.65 metres on Monday morning to nearly 3 metres early Tuesday morning.
