Chilliwack was walloped with 20 centimetres of snow on Christmas Day and Boxing Day hit a record low temperature.

Storm snowfall on Dec. 25 was 20.6 centimetres, according to Roger Pannett, volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada.

And on Dec. 26, the mercury hit a record low for the early hours of day of -12.2 C plus the wind chill making it even colder due to Arctic outflow winds. That is 12.1 C below normal for the day in Chilliwack.

It never got warmer than -11.3 C, as a record low maximum, on Sunday, Dec. 26, making it the coldest day in Chilliwack in 25 years since the storm of 1996. That’s more than 15 degrees below normal, Pannett said.
