The Lickman Road improvement project will get started in April to cut traffic congestion at one of the busiest interchanges in Chilliwack.

Chilliwack council approved the design-build proposal from Eurovia Vinci in the amount of $3.97 million on Tuesday.

The infrastructure project funded by City of Chilliwack and the Province of B.C. will see about 25 sessions of night work to complete tasks that could otherwise create traffic hardships by day.

A new two-lane roundabout is one of the notable features of the project.

Notices will be going out to any businesses in the area that could be impacted by the night work to let them know about the construction schedules.

A Letter of Agreement will be signed between the City of Chilliwack and the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, for up $2 million for the province to pay for one-third of the work.

Changes on the north side:

• Additional turning lanes

• Additional climbing lane

• Longer northbound left-turn lane

Changes on the south side:

• Two-lane roundabout

• Additional lanes

• Ramp intersection

– Signal removed

– Right-turn only

One of the biggest changes for Chilliwack with the $6.5 million Lickman Road upgrade will be the new two-lane roundabout, on the south side, to help reduce traffic congestion.
